Description:

Nowadays competition is becoming more and more intense. Companies all over the world are significantly increasing their R&D spending, but there are quite a few high-tech innovations that can radically change the competitive situation in an industry. Therefore, in order to create fast growing companies they should develop and implement more than just technical innovations, but also an efficient business model. In the age of a global competition, the company leading position will be largely depend on the success of a business model.

1.       The aim of the project is identifying key success factors of Russian high-tech innovation companies:

·         analysis of business models as key success factors of technological companies;

·         understanding the relative importance of business models among other factors.

2.       Expected outcomes

We expect to prove the hypothesis, that companies with innovations that have efficient business models, will be more competitive and demonstrate sustainable long-term growth.

3.       Research importance for theory

The term “business model” first appeared in the 1950ths and only in the beginning of the 1990ths it has received a broad acceptance in business and academic community. There are only a few researches in this field, and most of them talked the definition, structure and typology of business models. They have not attempted to show the relations of business model to company key performance metrics.

Research on Russian high-tech innovation companies will fulfill this gap and illustrate the importance of business model development with empirical data. It will be one of the first large-scale research project in this field in Russia.

4.       Application

We will develop recommendations and methodology for designing optimal business models for companies in high-tech industry.
